Hello and thank you for visiting my site. This website is going to help raise $5000 for the Covenant House in Detriot.
First, I will tell you about my story. In 2005, my girl friend and I were living in Harrison Mi. I had a good job and a great life. I supported her and her two kids in a modest two bedroom house with lots of acreage with a shed and pole barn. I worked as a paramedic for 14 years, the company that I worked for sold it's name and business. The new company came in and brought in all their own employees. Most of the employees that I worked with were fired over little insignificant things. Therefore we could not claim unemployment. I looked for a job for almost 2 years and spent every last dime we had to keep our house. We had to sell everything in order to pay our bills and then the inevitable happened, we lost the house. I looked for help for electricity, rent and food bills from differant organisations, but to no avail. The Saginaw shelter was our last hope and they were able to take her and the kids. I had to wait a few days. I slept in our vehicle. I begged for food and work, but no work was found. I was finally accepted and we spent 2 months in there. In that two months, I found a job in the city, and we applied for housing.
Thanksgiving was only a few days away when we received a letter in the mail saying we can move into a home, a beautiful three bedroom house in Bay City. My girlfriend and I had a church that donated food, a huge turkey, and all the fixings, as well as, houshold stuff for us. I am so greatfull, I couldn't have been happier.
After we had our house, I started to donate time at the shelter, sweep, clean, cook and laundry. I tried to give back everything that was given to me. Yet, I felt I needed to do so much more.
Well, now I am doing better. My girlfriend and I broke up, I'm single and helping with family. I have the time now to once again give back. On May 1st of this year, I am going on a ride across America to raise money for the Covenant House in Detriot. I saw their news story on a local Detroit TV station. The Covenant House was doing such great things for the homeless young people, school, college and a loving caring home like setting, I was truely impressed. The Covenant House is much better than the other homeless shelters, in my opionion.
I am planning to ride my motorcycle just shy of 9000 miles, across America, to raise money in the amount of, at least, $5000 dollars. My road trip starts in Michigan, south to Key West Florida, from there west to California and north to Seattle. Then the long northern route home to Michigan. I am planning to stay in a tent. I do not want to rent motels because the more that is spent, the less will be raised. I am truely looking to give every dime I raise to the Covenant House.
Anybody that is willing to help donate or become a sponser is welcome. I have had over 800 dollars in materials and money donated so far. Thank you so much, everyone, for the help. I am very happy that I have had such a generous group of people that have helped out thus far. Believe me, I do feel the "recession". I am currently unemployed and living with family.
I have had a few meetings with the Covenant House, with more meetings to come. I will post events on this site to keep everybody in touch. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact me at email@example.com or gmail.com. If you care, you my also call me at 586 563 0827, my phone is always on.
